The science...

Laser therapy uses light to favour and accelerate the body’s natural healing processes. The laser beam is moved over the skin so that the light energy (photons) penetrates the tissue where it interacts with various molecules (chromophores) that cause different biological effects. It produces a photochemical, photothermal and photomechanical effect.

Laser treatment is great for both dogs and cats (but also rabbits, rats, birds and other exotics). It is free from side effects and produces a mild soothing heat over the treatment area.  The laser light is able to penetrate deeply into the tissue and provide energy that stimulates cellular respiration to promote healing. The light energy also affects nerves directly reducing the transmission of pain signals to the central nervous system. The net result is increased rate of healing and decreased pain.

For most conditions we advise starting with 2 to 3 sessions weekly. As the benefits are seen the frequency reduces.  Most long-term conditions are maintained on treatment every 2 to 4 weeks depending on the duration of benefit.

Laser therapy is safe and compatible with other pain relieving treatment used for arthritis etc.

The benefits of veterinary laser therapy are relatively new in the veterinary industry. Despite this, veterinarians are quick to adopt the technology as they see a marked improvement in their patient’s quality of life, and most notably in the reduction of pain and swelling and the increase in mobility. MLS Laser Therapy technology is the most advanced laser therapy system on the market. Reduction of response times, and therefore overall treatment times, distinguishes MLS Laser Therapy from traditional laser therapy with reciprocal advantages for both the operator and the patient.
